Reactor-88’s Custom Corner: Cucaracha Borracha

4

Welcome to the September edition of Reactor-88's Custom Corner. This month we’re highlighting Cucaracha Borracha.

What’s your name?

My name is Alan Rodrigo Zermeño.

Where are you located?

I'm from México.

Day job or full-time artist?

I'm a graphic designer. I usually work on some projects externally with advertising agencies and I am currently working as a freelancer to have more time to work on my personal projects such as the custom toys, illustrations, and other things.

Any random things you want people to know about you?

My sister is Jump Jumper Ant, who is also in the world of art toys and we have a project called MOLOKO & COSCHCA. I also worked making special effects for one of my best friend’s FX company.

How long have you been painting toys?

I’ve been in the art toy world for eight years, but I have a long history of sculpting , modeling, and painting. One of the things i like about customizing toys is that the platform is always a challenge . Usually when one makes his own sculptures there is no limit but with the customs the story is very different haha.

Anything specific you’d like people to know about your toy work (style, influences, special techniques, etc.)?

I like to use different materials in my pieces and try not modify the platform more than is necessary. As to my influences, there are many but I think the ones most present in the design of my characters are Mike Mignola, Akira Toriyama, Jamie Hewlett, and Huck Gee. When I create a character I try to imagine their history and how that influences the design. My characters are usually darker, I do not like to make happy characters haha. They are almost always serious or angry.

Do you take commissions?

Yes.

Best way(s) for people to contact you/see your work?

You can contact me via email or via Facebook and you can also see my work and other projects on my Instagram.
