Reactor-88’s Custom Corner: Kiiro Toys

Welcome to the November edition of Reactor-88's Custom Corner. This month we’re  highlighting Kiiro Toys.

What’s your name?

Paula Danielse aka Kiiro Toys

Where are you located?

The Netherlands

Day job or full-time artist?

I have a part time not so interesting day job and spend all of my free time to either photography and making art toys. 2015 has been mostly about toys though.

Any random things you want people to know about you?

I’m a color addict who still believes in fairy tales.

How long have you been painting toys?

Since 10 months. Over the last couple of years I photographed toys and loved making the photos into little stories. I liked it so much I started dreaming of making a children’s book with pictures of toys that looked like little fairy tales. For this dream I could not use an existing toy obviously so I googled 'making your own toy’ and ended up looking at tutorials for making resin toys all weekend.

After that weekend I ordered some supplies and some how this evolved in having a little shop filled with cute little resin toys I made along the way.

Around the summer of 2015 I had a lot of new resin / toy friends through Instagram and I made some cool trades with some of them.

That is how I got in contact with customizing toys. I instantly loved it and have made a few series and a some solo customs.

Anything specific you’d like people to know about your toy work (style, influences, special techniques, etc.)?

I’ve been making resin toys for 10 months and customizing for only 3 months, so I think its safe to say my style and techniques are still evolving. I learn new stuff every day and am loving it!

A big contrast with the photography community is the willingness of toy artists to share and help other artists.

It’s been an amazing year with so many new people and a whole world I knew near to nothing about.

For me Instagram is an amazing way to meet new artist and collectors, its amazing to follow people who’s work you love and see what they are working on at a daily basis!

Finding inspiration just kinda happens, I often tune out when the grown ups talk and end up in fairy lands I make up in my mind.

Its happened so often while falling asleep I now have a little black book on my bed side to draw a sketch of an idea I got just before I fall asleep.

Do you take commissions?

Yes I do!

Best way(s) for people to contact you/see your work?

You can find most of my toys on my Instagram: @Kiirotoys or send me an email at [email protected] and visit my  etsy store : www.etsy.com/store/kiirotoys and also  if you like to see some of my photography you can find that here : www.flickr.com/photos/morphicx
