Reactor-88’s Custom Corner: Fer MG

Welcome to the February 20 16 edition [ed:Leap Day Style]  of Reactor-88's Custom Corner. This month we’re featuring Fer MG.

What’s your name?

My name is Fer Mogica, mi artist nickname “Fer MG”

Where are you located?

I’m from Madrid, Spain.

Day job or full-time artist?

I try to to reconcile too many activities. I’m a musician, graphic designer, and have my own computer business. And since last year I also started making and customizing resin and vinyl toys. I need days with more than 24 hours haha

Any random things you want people to know about you?

I have great respect for all artists in the designer toy scene because I consider myself mainly a musician who also loves plastic arts and enjoys making toys. As a guitarist I recorded an album with Sony Music Spain, and last year I started the project ‘FM Art Studio’, whose focus is developing art toys, sculptures, and other artistic projects.

How long have you been painting toys?

One year. I started in 2015. Some of my friends collect art toys and two of them even make their own  pieces. I was fascinated by the designer toy world and began to make my own resin platform toy “Torete Pepe”, a ‘minibull’ toy based on the Spanish heritage and culture. After that I started to customize vinyl platforms- Kidrobot Dunnys and Munnys, Kuso Vinyl Spiki, Muttpop Tequila, Vinyl Scape Gas Line, Veneno Toys Evo Lucio, etc.

Anything specific you’d like people to know about your toy work (style, influences, special techniques, etc.)?

I am open minded to different styles and trends, and don't limit myself to any specific technical style or influence. I like to do from “clean-cute-pop-happy” toys to “dirty-creepy-rust-angry” toys. I like both worlds and many of my toys have two different halves, a “rusty metal” side and a “clean-drawing” side, so I can join two different ideas into the same toy. In other areas I do the same- as musician I like to play from “pop-happy-clean” guitars to “heavy-distortion-dirty” guitars... I like to experiment with new things- if I do the same thing a long time, I get bored.

I make custom vinyls, my own sculptures, and resin figures with silicone molds. I use acrylic paints, spray, clay, Sculpey, epoxy… I want to buy an airbrush as well. I enjoy learning new painting techniques.

Do you take commissions?

Yes, I take commissions ([email protected]) when I’m not busy with my own projects. Sometimes I do small and fast commissions like “Minion Dunnys” and similar works to “help the business” and finance greater and more elaborate works that I really enjoy. Commissions are always welcome for this poor artist! haha
