Seen: Craola -- Stair Monsta Signing at 3DRetro
Last Saturday evening, Greg ‘Craola’ Simkins released and signed his surreal Stair Monsta figure for a large group of collectors and fans at producer 3DRetro’s location in Burbank. Joined by sculptor Kevin Pasko who brought both Stair Monsta and the previous Ralf figure to 3D life, Craola debuted perhaps the best vinyl translation of his work to date. Monsta is a striking orca and cow hybrid—blended as only he can—masquerading as a harmless bunny. Lurking in the dark and seen as a menacing shadow, Stair Monsta is one of a long list of bedtime impediments and terrors faced by Ralf and his brother in the I’m Scared stop-motion short.
Fresh from the film festival circuit, collectors and fans were treated to an eagerly anticipated screening of the film in the store’s parking lot turned theater. Fun and humorous, the short delivers animated poetry visualizing childhood fears and imagination run amok, brought on by looming sleep time.
In addition to Stair Monsta and Ralf, collectors had plenty of additional Craola collectibles to choose from including the I’m Scared Mook, Tricky Treator Socks, Join Me giclee, and raffle tickets to win a Craola original coffin panel painting.
