myplasticheart @ NYCC

IMG_1352

It’s safe to say that myplasticheart did work at this years NYCC. They had numerous toy releases with Adfunture, Abe Lincoln Jr., and Circus Posterus, Shawnimals, and of course MPH Labs. They also had some top notch artists sign at their booth, such as Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Lou Pimentel, Brent Nolasco, Abe Lincoln Jr., Shawnimals, Andrew Bell, and Patricio Oliver. They even had enough time to put on a mini custom Gordo show within all this madness. All I have to say is to look at the pics after the jump.

Mike Leavitt – Art Army Series: Banksy @ NYCC

3_DSC_8039

Mike Leavitt’s on-going Art Army project features his hand-crafted one-of-a-kind action figures of notable artists in the lowbrow and pop surrealist genres.  Now he’s bringing his wit and caricature skills to a new limited-edition figure series produced by Jailbreak Collective.  The first (of 3) figures, featuring a likeness of infamous street artist Banksy, was shown at NYCC.  The figure + included diorama recreates the elusive one’s Gitmo Prisoner prank done at the Big Thunder Mountain rider at Disneyland.    Very cool.

Doktor A – G.N.O.M.E. @ NYCC

1_DSC_7579

Raje chose NYCC as the first release of Doktor A’s G.N.O.M.E. figure.  The steam punk miner turned out quite nicely with excellent detail to be found throughout the ‘mechanical' elements including the arms, miner gear and more.  The removable helmet is executed quite nicely with just the right fit to cover the drill which has clean, sharp lines.  As with Patricio Oliver’s Tenebrae figures, G.N.O.M.E. builds on Raje’s basic vinyl body platform with resin pieces for nearly all the character-specific bits.  At $60 G.N.O.M.E. is an excellent value.

Patricio Oliver – Tenebrae @ NYCC

2_DSC_7586

New brand Raje Toys made the trip from the UK for NYCC.  For their first showing in the USA, they released two new two projects including Argentinean artist Patricio Oliver’s Tenebrae figures: Argent Paladin and Ruby Paladin.  Patricio was on-hand to greet collectors and chat about his new best rider figures.

The figures look nice, have a very solid, weighty feeling and feature riders that separate at the waist so they can be used in riding and standing poses.  Part of the solid feeling of these figures comes from the use of resin for the detailed sections of the piece including the  torso arms and perhaps also the arms themselves as a compliment for the base vinyl body which it shares with Dr. Brain, Raje’s first toy.  Raje’s approach to creating limited-edition toys at affordable prices (the Tenebrae pieces are $60) through the use resin + vinyl is interesting and innovative.

ToyQube @ NYCC

IMG_1336

ToyQube put together a pretty awesome display to show off Keith Poons Myth Warriors and the new Baby Sharky. The Teracotta warriors do look as they they pulled them from some sort of ancient Chinese civilization. Also on display at the booth (#2874) were some customs by Keith, which included his custom Berty mk2 figures based on Transformers characters. We also got a good glimpse of the first collaborative project of their new Baby Sharky with MCA Evil Design.

Alexone – Lowrider @ NYCC

1_DSC_7023

Artoyz Originals sent several new toys to NYCC for display in the Vinyl Pulse booth including the never-seen-before Lowrider from French graffiti artist Alexone.  Due in 2011, this sweet piece features a lowrider riding high on hydraulic shocks with an eclectic driver and a set of birds-in-crime as passengers along for the ride and painting mission.  Blending car culture, graffiti, and characters which exude a measured dose of ‘toon DNA,  Lowrider presents an attractive aesthetic.  The slightly loose treatment results in a strong  free-flowing piece.  We’re really looking forward to this release – definitely near the top of our list for upcoming figures.

Paul Kaiju @ NYCC

Taking up part of the Onell Design Booth (#2780), Paul Kaiju has a nice chunk of both Customs and resin figures. Available today were a bunch of his mini Boss Carrions, Mock Bats, and Baby Biters. We also enjoyed looking at his collaborative Biter figures with Gylos bodies. My personal favorite would have to be the custom Boss Carrions and Biterman figures.
