Draped in the colors of its flag, each rebel sports a trooper-style ‘helmet’ (clever use of the face shape), a bandana and a volatile Pepsi cocktail. QUICCS – BABYTEQ Customs for DTA Dunny 2 (1.9)
For this weekend’s DTA Dunny 2 show (1.9) at the Clutter Gallery, QUICCS has upped the TEQ with deluxe 2-figure sets. Riffing off his previous BABYTEQ customs, QUICSS created a new K9 companion concept made cleverly from two 3” Dunnys (one armless 3” jointed with another armless+headless Dunny + ear as tail). Rather than doing just one 8” BABYTEQ + K9 combo, QUICCS has created two custom sets with different color schemes – SRCH + Destroy (camo, orange, and black) and ARMD + Dangerous (Gray, Black & Blue). Each set will be available for $350. Both look great – especially SRCH + Destroy.

2PetalRose – Yin & Yang Maiko Commissions
2PetalRose continues to create impressive Maiko oneoffs. This time around here’s a look at the Yin & Yang Maikos created on commission for a collector looking for a pair of figures that were inverses of each other. The striking black+white designs (15” feature intricate fabric details achieved through custom printing. The inclusion of a single rose on the helmet is a nice touch.

2PetalRose – 2 New Maikos
2PetalRose continues to create stunning one-off Maiko pieces. This time around Liam has mixed it up rather nicely with two very different design vibes from an Adidas homage with the Oldskool Maiko to a more traditional aesthetic with the commissioned Midori Maiko. The latter includes a flag, base featuring traditional Japanese print and a pair of blades. Both of these spoken for pieces have us appreciating 2PR’s artistry once again and looking forward to seeing more Maikos-– both one-offs and hopefully some editions.

Tasha Zimich for Vive La Lolligag at Woot Bear (8.29)
From the previews we’ve seen so far, the upcoming Vive La Lolligag custom show at Woot Bear (8.29) is looking really good. For her turn with Lolligag, Tasha Zimich looked at the curly-cue hair contours and saw … eyeballs. Sculpted detail in a toy can be an obstacle to customizing, so it’s nice to see Tasha coming up with a creative approach. Going with a bit of a macabre Victorian theme, Tasha dreamt up and painted Miss Kiss. Props for the incorporating the accessories and the Moot mini-figure.
In addition to Tasha’s work, Vive La Lolligag will feature customs by nearly 50 artists including Betso, Big C, Brandon Dicks, Candie Bolton, Carson Catlin, Cat Atomic, ChrisRWK, Daniel Fleres, Downtimer, EoS, Eric Tan, Frank Montano, Gretchen Lewis, Haus of Boz, Heidi Kenney, Horrible Adorables, Irene Garcia, Jason Hornbuckle, Jeff Gomez, Jenn and Tony Bot, Jerome Lu, JFURY, Joey Chou, JRAD, J*Ryu and Vampy, Leecifer, Malo April, matthew Knight, Melodreama, Mikie Graham, Ming Ming Castillo, Mizna Wada, Martin Hsu, Nakanari, Nate, Obscure, Philip Lumbang, Rich Shehan, Riser, RXSeven, Sneaky Raccoon, Task One, ToyArtCustom, Tyler Ham, Valley Dweller, William Rummel, Zachary Sweets, and Zard.

Michael Lau Inspired Spiki Custom by Nakanari
Nakanari will be making his way to Jakarta Indonesia for his very own Spiki Custom Showcase on Saturday, September 19th. This show will include custom Spiki figures by Nakanari, which were all inspired by all of the artists he looks up to. One of them being the grandfather of designer toys, Michael Lau. The S.F.S.P.I.K.I. was inspired by the Gardener CC32 SFML S.F.M.L, which took a lot of work! The process consisted of sculpting, acrylic boxes by Dave Quiland, stickers by Nicolás Rodríguez and of course the correct texture and paint applications to pull this piece together. Stay tuned for more info on the Spiki Showcase!

Brent Nolasco -- ‘Forget Me Not’ Bun Bun Custom
We last saw Brent Nolasco’s newest creation, Bun Bun, in a light purple debut edition back in late March. Now, here’s Brent’s first custom of the quirky ‘bunny’ character. ‘Forget Me Not’ gives poignant visual and tangible form to the vibrant essence of life.
Bun Bun sits and takes time to reflect on a skull covered in moss and mushrooms. This is his special place to go. He watches the sun come up in the morning and counts the stars at night. He finds an inner peace being here and vows to never leaves his master side. Even though much time has passed, the memories of laughter and love are still vivid and fresh in his mind. One can pass away but the memory still lives on in our hearts.
Created with a rotocast Bun Bun figure, Aves Epoxy Sculpt, found objects and acrylic paint, Forget Me Not (11” x 7” x 5”) was hand-painted and sculpted by Brent himself. The unforgettable piece is available now for $250 (+s/h) over on the artist’s web store.

Tasha Zimich for Twisted Mouse at PIQ (3.14)
For PiQ’s Twisted Mouse show (3.14), Tasha Zimich created two very different visions with a custom and an original painting. Her Five Nights at the House of Mouse Dunny presents everyone’s favorite mouse in “creepy animatronic” form and is inspired by the homicidal robot game Five Nights at Freddy’s. Tasha’s painting style makes this piece hum with a sense of freaky charm. From freaky to playful, her Hide and Squeak acrylic painting (4 x 6”) casts Mickey not as “a real boy” but rather as a real mouse lounging in his alter ego’s threads.

Josh Mayhem – Zaku Gunny
Josh Mayhem aka Master Kit Basher is back with a new Gunny custom (Gundam + Dunny). Created as a private commission, Zaku Gunny is based on the Zaku Mobile Gundam Suit. The piece blends the Dunny and Gundam DNA into each other without obscuring either. The grimy weathering is a nice touch giving the figure a battle tested feel.

RXSEVEN – Custom MG2 Mini God “Serpent King”
RXSEVEN from our January edition Custom Corner has just one more amazing piece he wanted to share with us! Once we got the email there was no way we wouldn’t share this with our viewers. RSXSEVEN turned one of Marka27’s MG2 Mini God figures into the “Serpent King”. RSX sculpted a skull onto the face and decided not touch the rest of the figure, to preserve the original sculpt. He also used acrylics and aerosol to paint up this piece.

Otto Bjornik -- Custom Elizabeth
Otto Bjornik has just completed this new custom Elizabeth figure for a private collector. He’s brought his artistry in his go-to red, white, and black palette to this custom Wandering Misfit. Bjornik’s recurring nature theme flows gracefully here from the subtle tree pattern on the dress to the topping signature flower. Finally, a touch of fantasy lies just beyond the obvious, a wide-open eye on the backside of the lollipop.
