NYCC 09: Lou Pimentel @ MPH

IMG_0140

As a late addition to the signing schedule for the myplasticheart booth, Lou Pimentel brought in a nice crowd for his Sunday signing. Lou was happy enough and honored to get his sketch on for his fans. His Brooklyn Ape custom Mini Munnys were a huge hit and all sold out within the first two days of NYCC. Hopefully we get to see some more new swoosh editions very soon. More pictures right after the jump.

Hiddy and Secret Base @ NYCC

5-DSC_4686

Secret Base made their first appearance at NYCC this past Saturday (4.7) with a number of NYCC exclusives and several custom pinstriped toys.  Founder, leader, and big boss man Hiddy was on hand for the event which drew quite a line.

The drop schedule was pretty full with two Usugrow NYCC exclusives – a premium black Rebel Ink (black flocked) for $150 and a transparent brown (copperish) Salvation Ink.  Also on tap was a new NYCC exclusive Dr. Mortality in a wicked Red cloaked Blue GID edition.  Secret Base also tempted collectors with custom pinstriped vinyl skulls and Deka Bees  -- the skulls were pretty sweet.  Finally, Secret Base was showing an NYCC exclusive set of blue GID unpaint figures which were marked “coming soon”.

Be sure to hit the jump for plenty of pics.

Jon Kovalic – Mythos Buddies

MythosB1MythosB8

Dreamland Toyworks recently lifted the lid on Jon Kovalic’s follow-up project to his My LIttle Cthulhu vinyl which was a smash success. Mythos Buddies is a 12 figure blind-boxed series revolving around Buddy Cthulhu – a shrunken down and oh-so cute version of the green monster.  Jon has mentioned on his blog that there are 9 variants of the Buddy Cthulhu sculpt  (above on the left) as well as three character-specific sculpts including Cthulu for President (above on the right) which features a thumbs-up right-hand. Dreamland Toyworks will be revealing two new designs each Monday – keep up!   Be sure to hit the jump for close-up shots of the unpainted mini figure – spied at NYCC.

NYCC 09 : Brent Nolasco’s Wanderlust Proto

7-DSC_4791

After some tense moments getting things ready, Brent Nolasco’s dope Wanderlust proto is on display at the ToyQube booth.  Brought into 3d by NYC sculptor NEMO, this impressive odd duo has paired up to explorer their world.  No word on a manufacturer yet, but if you dig it, let your voice be heard.  In case your curious, the figure is two pieces – the ‘slug’ and the ‘bat’.

NYCC 09: Rohby Bomber-Zero

3-DSC_4337

Android 8 is showing off a hyper-detailed transformable prototype of Rohby’s Bomber-Zero – a mech version of the WWII Era Japanese classic fighter.   We’ve been fans of Rohby’s wicked mech-style customs for quite some time, so it’s great to learn that he has an original toy in the works that stays true to his style. The final version will ship with the rifle (as shown in the picture).

Test Shot of MINDstyle’s Peacemaker 32.9 by Brandt Peters

1-DSC_4031

Brandt Peters opened his Cackle Factory solo at Gallery 1988 in LA this past Tuesday evening.  Featuring new original paintings (including some stellar graphite pieces), plush sculptures, and customs – this was clearly Brandt’s best show to-date.  We’re working on full show coverage, but we thought we’d drop a first-hand look at a test shot of his Peacemaker 32.9 from MINDstyle which was on display at the show.

The figure we saw was not final (the drippings will be reduced in size and prominence) however it was quite impressive.  First off, it doesn’t look like vinyl rather acheiving an almost almost tin-toy like appearance.  Second, it has an imposing presence. Third, the weathered, beat-up look adds considerable character – this doesn’t look a shiny, pristine machine, but rather a battle-tested one.  Finally, we kept wanting to look at it, and up close.  A positive sign.

Peacemaker 32.9 drops in limited quantities via Toy Tokyo’s NYCC booth (#858). Definitely worth checking out. Brandt and his wife Kathie Olivas will be signing at the booth  on Saturday, February 7th from Noon to 2 PM.

ToyQube Exclusives & Signings @ NYCC

Print

ToyQube has two exclusive figures ready for their debut at their booth (#870) for NYCC. We first saw the Hammer Head Sharky last year at the TQ booth during SDCC.Now it is out of the water and on it’s way toward your collection. The bigger brother of the sharky is an all black figure, covered in blood, with knife in hand. Only 100 Pieces will be available for this event and will cost $79.99. The artist of this figure, Keith Poon will be signing and sketching at the booth on Friday from 2 PM – 3 PM.

23

Second figure up to bat is the Hi-Def by kaNO. Sneaks of this figure were posted well over a year ago in hopes with it’s first release at SDCC 2008. Unfortunately the project was withheld for a short time. Now he makes it just in time for his very first release at this years NYCC. The release of this figure in NY is very fitting, considering the artist as well as TQ represent NY. 100 Pieces just for the con and to have him in your collection, he will run you $85. The man behind this figure, kaNO will be signing and sketching on Saturday from 10 AM – 12 PM. The rest of the goodies from TQ continued after the jump.

MINDstyle’s Kathie Olivas NYCC Exclusives

Kathie Olivas’s Scavengers is undoubtedly one of the hottest art toy lines. So collectors will be eager to know that  MINDstyle will drop two NYCC exclusive figures from Olivas,  a black/yellow Beaumont mini (200 pcs, $20) and a gorgeous Gray 9” Two-Faced Hazel (200 pcs, $100).   Both figures will be available from Toy Tokyo’s booth (#858). A limited quantity of the NYCC exclusive Hazel will be available at the show with the remainder to be sold at a later date online through Toy Tokyo.

Kathie will be signing at Toy Tokyo’s booth on Saturday February 7th from Noon to 2 PM and will be joined by her Husband Brandt Peters who will be signing his Peacemaker 32.9 which debuts at the show.   In fairness to the many fans expected for this single signing, Toy Tokyo will limit each person to having two items signed – one purchased toy and one additional item (diy, print, book, sketch, etc).  Lev, owner of Toy Tokyo explains that  "We anticipate a huge turn out and demand, so this is the only fair solution to everyone in attendance. Our goal is to be able to accommodate as many fans as possible in the time allotted."
