Paul Kaiju @ SDCC

IMG_1738

It has been a big year for Paul Kaiju so far, with many more things to come. During PK’s time at the Global Figure Symposium booth, he dropped a lot of amazing stuff. That includes his first ever sculpt to vinyl figure, the Boss Carrion. He also surprised us with a magnetic trunk and foot, which held onto one of his Biter figures. The HP Boss’ were just amazing and it was a shame that I was tapped out to pick one up. He also exhibited some painted tree sculpts and Funguy, and not to mention his custom collaboration with Big Plastic Toys. To many things to talk about, just look at the pics.

She had tons of Uamou figures available and even displayed some customs that other folks have done for her. One of the most rad pieces at her table were the Goto-San hand painted Uamou Fortune cats. We also cannot forget the sketch she did for us! Thanks again Ayako!

IMG_2274

DJ Lance Rock of Yo Gabba Gabba! came to SDCC last Sunday to show off his very own Dunny. A day most of us know as kids day. He was there to meet with not only the kids, but the adults as well. It seemed as if there were more adults into Yo Gabba Gabba than kids and I know why.

SDCC: The Canmans – Graff Spray Can toys from Toynami

1_DSC_0672

In addition to the UNKL figures,  Toynami seems to be exploring the ‘urban’ genre with ‘The Canmans’.  At first this seems to be yet another spray can figure.  The wrinkle is that it looks like the brand is working with some top-flight artists including REVOK, Dabs Myla, POSE and Greg ‘Craola’ Simkins. Additionally, this is a ‘jar’ concept which we believe refers to the stash space that becomes available once the top is removed.  Very curious to see how this early project continues to develop.

SDCC: The Return of UNKL

1_DSC_0691

After a brief hiatus, UNKL is basic at SDCC under the Toynami label.  While Toynami is usually associated with Anime properties, it appears they have a newfound interest in designer/urban projects.

UNKL was showing not one, but three new projects – the SDCC exclusive Gastro-Normous as well as two works in progress – The Viking King (Dreamers Series) and the SearchR – the latest figure in their Search and Rescue series which started off with beloved SUGs.

SDCC: Travis Louie’s – Uncle Six Eyes

4_DSC_0516

Travis Louie’s Uncle Six Eyes resin bust made its debut at SDCC in the Hi-Fructose booth.  In production from Bigshot Toyworks, Six Eyes has made the transition from full figure to bust quite nicely.  The bust format better reflects Louie’s paintings which feature portraits of personable ‘monsters’.  The new piece rightfully places emphasis on the character’s face.  The plentiful facial detail nicely captures the personality and life of Uncle Six Eyes.
