Kidrobot SDCC Exclusives -- Jeremyville Chia Dunny, Sanrio Plush and Bob’s Burgers
Updated: Detailed info on Jeremyville Chia Dunny + pricing.
Kidrobot’s SDCC 2018 Exclusives offer fun, creative takes on beloved pop culture characters. Yesterday we put this post up with basic information based on an initial preliminary press release. Now with additional information from KR press, here’s a more detailed look at what to expect from the KR booth [#5145].
First up is a Chia-inspired Jeremyville Dunny. Turns out this 5” Dunny is indeed a chia planter. From the shot of the Dunny out of the box, prior to planting, it appears that it features a clever design with an inner terra-cotta element and shiny/glossy exterior – planter and toy all-in-one. It comes ready to grow with an included seed packet and will retail for $40.
Bob’s Burgers fans will be laser-focused on the SDCC Exclusive Bobcephala Medium Figure which features Bob’s all-in face paint as seen in the popular Brony-inspired The Esquestranauts episode. Don’t be surprised to see this variant of the 7” vinyl ride off into the sunset.
Finally, Kidrobot will be serving up a menu of soft, cuddly toy food featuring Hello Kitty and her Sanrio pals. In a bit of a twist, the kitty fries ($35) are the main course (size wise at least) with individual fries that can removed from the stylish plush container—clever! Where there are fries, there must be burgers, right?. KR’s new 2.5” burger charm plush minis ($10) include Hello Kitty, Keroppi, My Melody, Little Twin Stars, Badtz Maru and more.

DKE at SDCC: Five Fabulous Figures Announced So Far
DKE Toys has started to reveal their SDCC 2018 lineup featuring top notch art action figures (‘bootleg’ still has a certain charm). This year they are planning on 24 drops, in addition to their previously announced Space Rat project which combines vintage Salacious Crumb figures with eleven different artist backing boards. All of these releases will be available from the DKE booth [#5045]
So far they’ve announced five figures—four of which are Lucas inspired. Let’s start with Stripewok (above) from Little Lazies. This colorful Ewok homage is sculpted by hand in polymer clay to give it a distinct presence. Limited to 30 signed and numbered pieces, each figure is sculpted by the artist and will be available for $55.
Speaking of Ewoks, DKE will also release Skipbro Toys’ Ewokalypse Now resin figure ($55, 3.75” scale, 30 s/n pieces) featuring gorgeous card art from David Withers. For another Star Wars vision, Jim Mahfood brings his over-the-top style with Wookie Hash Pipe: Chewbee ($100, 3.75”, 50 s/n pieces) – the card art is amazing.
Going all in on the art action figure concept, Manly Art’s unique, hand-painted character portraits for Cantina Denizen ($150) brings us back to the gloriously dark and seedy world of gamblers, smugglers and bounty hunters. Each of the 24 signed and numbered glittery green resin figures features a different, hand-painted character portrait on the backing card. Rounding out the first five, 3001: A Lad In Space ($75, 3.75” scale, 50 s/n pieces) from Lazarus Toys brings us layers upon layers with David Bowie as Major Tom by way of Kubrick’s space opus. This one is a collective effort designed and painted by Galactic Jerkbag, hand cast by DLLCustoms, with head sculpt by Tyler Ham, card art from Michael A.C. Rebey and card printing by Kevin Malone.
Jerome Lu -- SDCC Exclusive Shao Lu The Strong Jade
Jerome Lu has several releases lined up for this year’s SDCC including the return of Shao Lu the Strong. The Jade Edition of the 3.25” resin figure has a realistic marbled texture and will be available for $50 from his Hyperactive Monkey booth [#5640]. DKE Toys – Space Rat Action Figure Art Series at SDCC
So DKE Toys found itself in the enviable but puzzling situation of sitting on a pile of vintage Salacious Crumb Star Wars figures produced by Kenner a long, long time ago (ok, 1983). What to do? When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade. With piles of Salcious Crumb figures, DKE created Space Rats, well actually the Space Rat Action Figure Art Series.
DKE invited eleven artists to interpret Jabba the Hutt’s Court Jester with original artwork. Dropping at SDCC 2018 from the DKE booth [#5045], the Space Rat series combines the vintage figures with one of eleven different artist backing boards featuring the artwork created for the project. The impressive lineup includes Scott C., Christian Clayton, Rob Clayton, Robbie Conal, Mike Egan, Alex Gross, Peter Kuper, Carlos Ramirez, Martha Rich, Mark Todd and Esther Pearl Watson.
Each artist edition is limited to 100 signed/numbered pieces (back of card), with the first 20 of each reserved for matching numbered sets. The Space Rat figures will be available at the DKE booth for $25 each or $200 for a set (a $275 value). This project turns the artist action figure concept on its ear ever so slightly with the focus being the artwork on the header card rather than the vintage toy itself, which is identical across all the artist editions.
