Bwana Spoons @ VTN (12.2.07)

Bwana Spoons is making the trip down from evergreen Portland to Pasadena for VTN this Sunday (12.2.07, 10am - 5:30 PM)  and he's got lots of vinyl dopeness in store for collectors.  First up, he's got a batch of customized 'Golden Fang' Steven the Bats.  He's also got a small army of custom Smoguns and Killers.  All this and a prototype of his fiberglass 4 foot Killer will be at the EFP3 booth.  Plus, he'll be showing a proto of his upcoming Rainbowsaurus Resin figure coming shortly from Switcheroo at the DKE Toys booth.  Bwana's plane gets into LA around 10 AM so expect him to get to VTN around Noon or so -- it'll be worth the wait!

Seen: VTN UUP

Vinyl Toy Network offered an alternative to SDCC for vinyl collectors, companies and artists with the Urban Underground Project in SD on Friday July 27th through Saturday the 28th.  Located at the spacious "Factory", the UUP hosted several vendors including toy companies such as Wheaty Wheat Studios, retailers including 3DRetro, Rooted Movement,  and Mechanized and artists including Chris Lee and UrbanMedium.

Several vendors offered exclusives including 3DRetro with two of the most highly sought after art toys in San Diego -- MINDstyle's Benny and Red Bird by Kathie Olivas and Slappy Happy and Mr. Muggles by Brandt Peters. UUP also hosted several signings by toy creators and artists each night at 6 PM including Andrew Bell, Brandt Peters, Brom, Buff Monster, GERMS, Kathie OlivasLuke Feldman, Toby HK, SKWAK, and more.

Collectors seemed to appreciate the laid back atomosphere compared to the constant crowds of SDCC while some remarked about the unfortunate lack of AC. VTN UUP offers an alternative to SDCC with the promise of offering a broader selection of vendors in a relaxed environment.  We're looking forward to the next step in VTN's growth.

VTN Urban Underground Project (7.27 - 7.28)

July in San Diego is no longer just about SDCC.  There's a new show in town dedicated to art toys and urban culture -- The Urban Underground Project organized by the Vinyl Toy Network (VTN).   UUP will be held concurrently during SDCC from 2 to 8 PM on both Friday July 27  and Saturday July 28th @ The Factory in downtown San Diego.  Building on the strength and community of its first two shows held in the greater Los Angeles area, VTN is offering the UUP as an alternative to the massive end-all, be all  pop culture behemoth that is SDCC.  UUP will cater to the vinyl community specifically by offering artist signings, exclusives and plentiful booth space at affordable rates to toy companies, retailers, and artists.    A special shuttle will be available to whisk collectors from the SDCC to UUP and back (every 30 minutes or so).  Vinyl Pulse is proud to be an official media sponsor of the VTN UUP. Stay with us as we bring you the 411 on exclusive releases  from artists and vendors over the next week or so.
